I tried to register but it didn't work.  Went through the process for "Newbie" but it didn't work.

Name is Mark.  I am fairly new to the area and live in the East Bay.  I was at Mission Cliffs and heard some guys talking about a new sport climbing area with Pinnacles-ish rock but is closer to the Bay than PNM.  I will admit I am not a big fan of driving all day to climb.  The area isnt in any guides that they knew of and is fairly recently developed I guess.

It isn't Table Moutain either, I asked.  Any ideas?

Tough call.

There is volcanic like material up on Sonora Pass Hwy that has cobblestones welded into the rock.

WAY sharper though. and some is less congealed than pinns.

cheers,

Its working thanks.  I never got the email, I just looked again.  But whatever.  I don't think it is anywhere near Sonora or the foothills.  They said it was closer than you would guess, and already has a good number of routes.  They also said that you can find pictures on the net but no directions.

Now if I wouldve been smart I wouldve got the guys contact info.  Oh well, hopefully I will see them in the gym again.  I was hoping that maybe one of the posts here since they also mentioned climbing at the Pinnacles.

They might be talking about the clibing up on Skyline.  It is sandstone so any lead bolts are suspect.  There are a fair number of lead routes and if memory severs me correct there are a couple of short multi pitch routes.  Personally, up on Skyline the boldering is better than the lead routes.

Sounded like it is a new area, not unreported from an old area.  Oh well, Ill let you know if I find anything.
