Bear Valley
« on: May 16, 2007, 05:06:35 AM »
Ok so I am in for Bear Valley this Sunday the 20th.  I didn't see a thread about this, so am starting one, :P.  Posted on MTBR and got a good response from a guy, and also a link, now he does more DH so the trails might look a little intimidating, but in any case:

http://ogrehut.com/trails.php/Sierra-South/BearValley

This is what he said in his post:

Stop at the sport shop at the entrance into Bear Valley on the left. They have a book of trail maps that will be very handy. If Jody is working, he can give you the info on trails to fit your riding style. There are lots of outstanding trails of all ability levels. You just have to locate them.

There are some granite slickrock slabs right in BV to play on.

Some trails I like to ride solo are Upper and Lower Tamarack(SS 'able), Alpine to Bear Valley(SS 'able) Lodgepole via the Slabs (FS and Gears)

We(da TROGS) do a mostly DH ride from Cape Horn to the Spicer Rd bridge once or twice a year. Sometimes as a shuttle or a "loop" from Bear Valley.

Enjoy :P

Hey Dirteater........Tahoe has some riding stuff now but I'm still waiting a few more weeks for the final snow to dry. Any idea on the coverage on the Bear Valley ridges?

I just got off the phone witht Bear Valley Adventure Company.  There are trails that are open and the weather is in the 70's.  There is still snow in some of the tress and some trails are still close and have tress that are down.    She has given me a list of the trails that are open and I will see if I can put a decent loop together.  The good thing is that "Slick Rock" is open and this is a great trail.   She ask to to call back on Friday and she will have more details.

Was up at Bear last Sunday 13th A couple of the trails may be open but still lots of snow  in the shade and on the better trails.  I had great skiing up at the top of the pass though.  I will also be up Sunday but doing some rock climbing.  Road riding is also good now.  What trails did they say were open?

Thanks for the weather update,  We are going to postpone Bear valley for a couple of weeks.  We may be heading over the Skyline side.

The snow is melting fast! and  last Sunday the weather was great. I will be up there this weekend and check out the trails.  Heading up tomorrow for the day  but we are climbing and will not be in the area of the trails.

I called down there today and they said that a good portion of the trails are open, but some still have patches of snow and some still have tress that are down. Only one side of the Apline loop is dry enough to ride.  I am guessing in a couple weeks it should be all good.

Uncle Stinky when you go up there this weekend can you let us know what you see.

thanks

Almost all trails are open.  Lots of downed tress and bits of snow  here and there.  Lots of Skeeters.  A few of the higher trails and more shaded trails may a snow on them  All trails should be open by next weekend but expect lots of dead fall not that many people ride up there and less travled trails get little maintenance.  Jeff

FYI.  We are going to Bear Valley tomorrow.   We are meeting in Modesto at 7:00am and will park at the Adventure center in Bear Valley.   I know some of you are at the Clinic this weekend.  Let me know how it went.

I rode with a bunch from stockton and Modesto on Sunday  lots of carnage. but great weather and company.  Here is a link to the ride.http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=312373
I ride without a bike computer but it was a nice long ride with lots of climbing and single track.  But the bad luck was following us.
