I am having a hard time not feeling completely crushed.

She died here at home, and Vicki reminds me that I was so worried that if we took her to the vet she would then die terrified (she was so scared at the vet office).

I buried her out front. It is cold as hell out there. Vicki reminds me that she is no longer hurting (it got so bad over the last two days that she could barely even walk).

Sorry you lost Charlotte, Brad and Vicki, she had the best life with you.

Oh, I am so so sad.

From now on, I shall think of Charlotte whenever I hike out alone behind everyone as she always waited for me and looked after me.  Rest in peace, my dearest friend.

It was time. Digby was born December 4, 2022. She's home with us now. No surprise that she's a Toller (a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever - Digby is the name of a town in Nova Scotia):

Her big sister (now the big dog) just doesn't think she's cute:

She comes from a litter of eight and was the only one who managed to escape the puppy enclosure (Darlene still isn't sure how). The litter "theme" is last or lasting (it'll be their mother's last litter). And so her kennel name (never really used, but there for formality) needed to have one of those words in it. When we heard that her brother was to be named "RedVine Ever Lasting Love," we knew immediately that she had to be "RedVine Ever Lasting Adventure." And let's hope that this is how she lives.

In other good news, Tricia is fairly certain that her summer schedule won't be screwed up this year and that we'll be able to do a significant amount of the 150.1 miles that remain to the Canadian border.

Congrats!  I love the look on Hallie's face.  As they say, payback is hell!

Or in this case, payback is literally a bitch. Albeit an awfully cute one.

Alright, you get credit for really, really clever on this one. May she bite you when you meet her.
