I wish to applaud the current trail crew at Pinnacles for what is an enormous amount of work on the trails in the Park.

We met one of the new rangers on Saturday - Matt - he said they were thinking about starting a climber's coffee on Sundays so maybe we can thank them in person soon - or at the MoM weekend. They are currently doing some serious reinforcement of the Moses Springs trail past the Monolith where it starts down to the crossing for the reservoir outflow.

This last Saturday I took a group of climbing friends to the Pinnacles.  These are climbers who mostly climb indoors and occasionally outdoors.  They had a great time.  I provided them with a list of preparation suggestions and observations of what to expect gathered from the Friends of Pinnacles website, Brad's guidebook, Mountain Project's Pinnacles section (not a fan, but the introduction section is great) and my observations.  The group really enjoyed the Pinnacles and thanked me for helping them with suggestions for preparation and climbing.

The link for purchasing the guidebook goes to REI and they have not had it in stock for a while. And used copies on Amazon and other used book sellers can be very very expensive. Does anyone know of any other sources for purchasing the Pinnacled Guidebook?

Thanks!

Hello Inno,

I got your message too.

I have fewer than 50 copies left unsold. The most recent wholesale sales have been to Pacific Edge climbing gym and to the Park Service itself. So copies may/should be for sale at or through the gym and at both Pinnacles Visitor Centers.

I stopped selling guidebooks retail because of the hassle of having to do sales tax payments to the State of California every quarter (not paying the taxes would be way too risky - fines and penalties if they look into failure would be horrific).

Inno, let us know if you had any luck with Pacific Edge and Pinnacles store. If not, let us know where you are physically located (city) and we might be able to get a short term loan figured out.

Of course, if you rope gun for me, I'll come with a copy for you to flip through.  ;)  Certain master of mud says I should get on harder climbs at Pinnacles to improve my technique.
Inch by inch, I will get there.

Don’t buy a Pinnacles Guide form REI, no way.
Pacific Edge and PG, hope they open soon.

I talked to a budding unicyclist near Seacliff today and he said the gym (Pacific Edge) is open again.
The Visitor Center on the west side is not open.

I was a little shocked Sunday about the water spigot/drinking fountain at the main parking lot on the West Side (Chaparral Trailhead Parking). We came back from climbing to signs on both parts saying that the water is "non-potable."

I have no idea what the issue is, but another climber we talked to saw someone testing the water that morning.

For the time being, I'd assume that there's no drinking water available at that trailhead.

We have routinely seen that guy testing water.
Must be some issue with the well.

Ha!!

I usually bring my own water fresh from Hech Hechy.
It tastes pretty sweet.

The monument water always had a definite taste.
Glad to hear they test it regularly.

Maybe Waldo has the right strategy?

Dangerous not to stay hydrated at Pinns. Everyone knows this.
