East Side was a total zoo today. Or at least it was when we started hiking to The Northeast Frontier and when we hiked back. Meanwhile we saw seven condors and no people there.

For the record the name “Danger Noodle” is Brian’s idea (he started the route three years ago and it was his to name). He says it’s snake related and that I should check the internet.

This name is good. it's even better when paired with how it came about.

Mud and Noal and I were climbing together. Noal's up placing a first anchor bolt on a new route, Dennis and I are at the base.

I comment to Dennis about my friend Jennifer, who's just signed up for Mudn'Crud. I ask if he's cleared her under her chosen moniker: "B.A.P.".

"Yes," he says.

Noal chimes in with: "we need a label like that for all the Santa Cruzians."

Dennis' next comments named the route: "No, we need one for the Sonora Passians." Significant pause.... "Snob Job."

That was it, instantly.

Snob Job  5.10a**

I'm not allowed to add it to the new route's list yet though. Dennis and Noal have an absolutely brilliant looking, hard 5.11 project 30 feet away. I think they're being paranoid about someone climbing Snob Job and then "stealing" their project. On the other hand, they put one hell of a lot of work into this thing, and I think Mud will send it this season (I watched him TR it from the side while I was drilling the second anchor bolt - what an effort!!). So, unlisted it will remain, perhaps to be added when they finish its sister route (this season, do it!).

Jennifer is brave and I will look forward to her posts.

That route name had me laughing hard enough to make my eyes water.

It was great to see NOAL and Mr. Mud.
