PRA Event Event

Title: 2nd Saturday Trail Work Day
When: November 8, 2014   9:00AM - 3:00PM
Where: Hunting Hollow Entrance and Parking Lot -

We will be brushing the south side of the parking lot and picking up trash that has been thrown into the bushes. There is poison oak scattered among the brush so you should be wearing long pants and long sleeve shirts.

Wow, that was sooooo tempting.

Instead I decided to complete the Hunting Hollow » Middle Ridge ride that Meí and I attempted a couple weeks ago…beginning at 9am we had climbed Anza » Jackson » Elderberry straight into a low rain cloud, got soaked, and bailed down Jackson Road/Trail » Anza. Now really, really soaked plus a coating of grit. At the Coyote Creek Gate the rain stopped and at Hunting Hollow the sun came out. The hilltops were still in the clouds so it was probably still miserable up there (a pretty wind on the open ridges too). In any case, Meí and I were done at that point.  A photo of me in the rain at the top:

And a little movie.

No such weather issues today. Clear and low 80ºs predicted. Not bad for November!

Driving 1o1 through San Jose I passed someone having a really bad Saturday morning:

Rolling out at 8:45am my bike was creaking loudly, a legacy of the rain ride 2 weeks ago—I hadn’t ridden this one since then—so there was some start and stop, trial and error tracking down the noise. Happily, a little chain oil on the seat rails cured it. The next discovery was that my legs hadn’t recovered from a long ride on the prior Wednesday (60 miles home to newly opened trails in Sanborn County Park). I slowed myself down and took breaks which produced a nice causal day in the park. The weather was great and ride went well. Oh I did have a little spill on Middle Ridge…going down a steep chute I ran into a Manzanita branch that had sagged across the trail. Couldn’t stop in time. Out came the hand saw and I cleared the trail for the next guy. Otherwise, no stories; here are a few random photos from the ride…

The cattleduster might not be around much longer:

Look how the wild boars have worn away the legs.

There was a large group at China Hole so I gave them some space and took a photo from this angle:

Glad that you completed the mission. Looked like a gorgeous day! And I thank you for your trail work on Middle Ridge on behalf of the next guy/gal. Hope your spill was not serious. We should put a stop on all these spills. Not good! No more!
Inch by inch, I will get there.
