I finally did Costanoan with Bob and my two daughters. This had been the easiest route at Pinns that I had never done. We'd tried to plan it many times before, but had always been stumped by the weather.
Conditions were good, but not great: rain two days before had left the first pitch wet and a little slippery. And, we picked the one day in 40 years that the West Side road was closed due to repaving! So we walked from the new visitor's center to the route:
Tricia following and Bob leading the first pitch (Katie is belaying Bob on lead, but she's tied in and she's using a Gri-Gri):
Bob and Tricia at the top of Pitch two:
We noticed that Tricia's clothing and shoes matched (we later noticed that both also perfectly matched Bob's rope's color):
Katie led the third pitch (I busted her at the start of the climb for forgetting her helmet - damned stubborn, willful teenagers):
Tying in:
The last pitch:
On the summit:
All in all, a great day on the way south. Thanks again, Bob, I hope your Thanksgiving was as good as ours.
