The fitting part was I almost got smooshed on the way to deliver the bike. Once I got on the freeway I was working my way to the commute lane. The car in front of me was moving so I started to accelerate and did one last mirror check/head check it was clear. I turned around and the car in front of me was on the binders so I hit the brakes and let off the throttle as I flipped the bike into the commute lane. At this point I started to accelerate and out of of instinct looked into my mirror before sliding into the center of the lane. All I saw in the mirror was a quick blur. I left off the throttle and more or less froze in my lane about the same time a black Mercedes flashed by. I was probably going about 20 to 25 at this time. There was very little open space between me and the Mercedes. I really think if I had just moved over, all would have been over.
Once that car went by I got up to speed and caught up and tailed the Mercedes Benz. I was positioned properly in the right of my lane behind the car and could see a bit of white hair around the right side of the passenger seat. Could not see anything of the driver but the windows had a bit of tint. Once traffic opened up again the car quickly accelerated so I picked it up and stayed with them. Soon we were zipping down the road at near triple digits. I figured it was good to shake the bike down a bit before handing it off. After a bit we started to hit traffic.
After the car in front slowed an opportunity opened and I was able to slide on up and take a look. I was curious to see. The car was not brand new, perhaps 10 years old, just a little wear, but clean, well maintained, very proper. The inside matched the exterior. I nosed up just a bit so I could see the folks inside. They were much like the car except in their 70's or 80's. It had to be a man and his wife. Very well put together, neither looked my way or seemed at all concerned with their surroundings. It is difficult to describe the look that they had as their eyes were not fixed down the road but that was the direction they were looking. They really seemed as though they were going some place and with a purpose. It took me a bit to draw myself away but my exit was coming up.
