A stranger offered a MTB training ride with me
« on: May 04, 2007, 08:07:49 AM »
I posted on MTBR looking for people to join me in a MTB training camp.  Next thing I know I was contacted by Anne from Mere Mortals Mountain Biking.  After a few email exchanges, she offered to teach me mountain biking. Is that cool or what?  That's a warm welcome to the community I guess. So, I'm ditching Erik for Saturday and will go biking Long Ridge with Anne. ;D
Inch by inch, I will get there.

Mr Mud be aware! Anne is short for ANDY...that dude is swooping on your wife!

Mudworm...that's awesome and let me know how it goes will you? My wife (Jen) has tried herself to find a group to mtb ride with. She powers on hills and flats but the technical downs kill her. Going with the man (I'm told) can bring it's own set of issues but I'm not sure why! ::)

Squiddo, your wife would be welcome to ride with us. We are meeting at Long Ridge trail head tomorrow at 9:30am.

This is how Anne describes herself: "I'm horribly slow on the climbs, but very fast downhill, and I've been mountain biking 15 years..."  Since I'm always scared going downhill, I'm sure I can learn some tricks from her.

*sigh* as luck had it, the ride did not happen. I went, and she went, but we missed each other.

I followed the Google Map direction she sent me that states clearly the destination is 5.1 miles from the Alpine/Skyline intersection.  Sure enough there is a Long Ridge entrance there. I waited for 30 minutes.  But she actually had the Long Ridge/Grizzly entrance in mind (3.1 miles form the intersection).  We were only 2 miles apart.

I was going to ride by myself, but then found one brake pad kinda sticky. That was enough of an excuse for me to go home.

I'm going riding tomorrow with a secrete pro. But I'm not going to say it now because I'm afraid that I'll jinx it again.
