Wayne Thompson, an early Pinns partner of mine, is a firefighter and EMT. He became interested in big mountains, climbing in the Andes, Alaska and finally on K-2 in 1994. We climbed several Sierra peaks together while getting him tuned up for the big mountain. His adventures and thoughts prompted me to write a fictional account of a K-2 ascent. That story, along with a Yosemite poem, were just published in the Deep Wild Journal 2024. Roper and Steck went out of business quite awhile ago, but Deep Wild is now picking up the slack as far as mountain literature is concerned.  I will read more, I was thinking about you at the close of a long day yesterday as we were wandering around the Island with no set plans, wondering how you would put into words swimming in the ocean at sunrise, exploring craters and lava tubes, landing the last first come campsite, pizza and sunset fishing at the beach, then driving back to our tent site at 4,000ft.

  As I think often of the climbers I have been so fortunate to have spent time with, it is wonderful that those that have the skills to put into words their experiences and inspiration are doing so, much to my pleasure.

 Seems like yesterday JC. We picked up where you left off…

 We ran into another hiker on the way up who was also staying at the RedHill cabin. Conner very quickly suggested that if we ended up stranded, that we should eat Johnny first. I added that to keep the meat from spoiling to go at it a limb at a time. No refrigeration available but plenty of parachute cord.

 Conner also gave a great condensed history of the cause of several wars. Johnny brought us up to date on horror films. Hard to beat quality time.
