Sierra Road and other madness...
« on: April 28, 2008, 10:14:43 AM »
I can now mark as done one of my 'ultimate cycling challenges'...

I completed the Devil Mountain Double on Saturday. That involved a fair amount of suffering, and some really fun stuff. 206 miles; 19,000 feet of climbing; 2 bee stings; several cramps; and yet somehow, I managed to ride the entire distance (no walking on the hills).

I'll post the full story when I get around to writing it.  ;)

That sounds anti-social.

If all you care is the distance, any cheapo cycling computer can do that. Here is an example.

Or you can get the distance and the map by moving your fingers using websites like gmap and mapmyride.

I have a GPS from which I download my actual course.
Inch by inch, I will get there.

Not at all... I talked to all sorts of different people during the ride. The people that do crazy rides like this are a great bunch...  :)

 Thanks Sal...

Apparently, I was the 70th finisher out of 112 (and a mere 5 hours and 4 minutes behind the fastest!). At least 151 people started.

I see. In the beginning, I thought you did it alone.

200+ miles and 18K'+ of climbing. That would take me days to finish. Nice job!

yes, yes, nice work and all, but does yer butt hurt?

that is the question, whether tis noble to have a sore butt as a sign suffering the saddle, or distance with no soreness as a sign of a good rider.

AH, yes, that age old proverb, "don't get all butt hurt over it"

My ass was a wee bit sore after that one... Nowhere near as bad as it did after some of the other rides I've done. I must be getting better...  ;)

I have another crazy ride coming up this Saturday. Should be even more fun.
