Henry Coe State Park January 3, 2015
« on: January 04, 2015, 02:17:07 PM »
Today was a group ride for Chris who is going to have toe surgery on Tuesday. She’ll be off her feet for a couple months and it goes without saying, off the bike as well.

An exciting moment on the morning drive south on Highway 101 when the rear tire on this bus disintegrated. A wisp of tire smoke is visible:

And so it begins, cross the stream and climb the Jim Donnelly Trail:

I'm disappointed that the camera didn't focus on the next two photos (it had focus problems all day):

Jill and Ricardo (?) way up the hill:

More climbing the Jim Donnelly Trail:

Ricardo and Cecelia on the Timm Trail:

Taylor on Bovine Slalom:

and Chris-Jill-Ricardo:

The group starting up the crushing Serpentine Trail:

Cecelia and Ricardo on the other Serpentine:

Never point the camera at the sun:

And so it ends, long, long Middle Steer Ridge downhill (aka Severe) followed by a half-dozen stream-crossings in Hunting Hollow:

Start at Hunting Hollow 10:49am » Hunting Hollow Road » Jim Donnelly Trail » Steer Ridge Road » Jim2Jones Trail » Spike Jones Trail » Timm Trail » Spike Jones Trail » Coit Road » Sierra View » Wasno Road » Bovine Slalom » Wasno Road » Wagon Road » Dėėr L●gıc Trail » Grizzly Gulch Trail » Serpentine Trail » Steer Ridge Road » Middle Steer Ridge Trail » Hunting Hollow Road » Hunting Hollow parking 3:53pm. 20.37/3:31/5:04/4,353'

Gilroy:

Cordoza Ridge:

It was not as cold as it looks like in this photo of Dexter Pond that afternoon. Still, it was impressive to think you could ride across this frozen pond until you got in the middle of it before it cracked and you would collapse into the water and die.

Here's a flat toad in Coit Road. I know many of us saw this fellow on recent rides in better condition.

I don't know what these peeps are saying after climbing Serpentine, and we had a coupl'a Serpentine climb virgins along, but I was thinking about how great it is to have a seat dropper to use descending Middle Steer Ridge!

So warm and comforting, if only I had thought of that.

Adding a few photos from Chris' camera…

At the Jim Donnelly bench:

Greetings from the top of Serpentine Trail:

One last one by Paul since Eric and Tom are under-represented:

Causing trouble when not climbing.

I wouldn't think the water could even reach my knee. But cold feet is no fun either, so you will never see me riding across any frozen pond.

Wish Chris the best on her surgery!
Inch by inch, I will get there.
