Some pretty significant rock fall just uphill from Son of Dawn Wall. What came off took out the tree that was at the base of SOD. So no longer will anyone have to climb through the tree, or if you were like me, fall through it. Always kind of sad to loose a tree though.

wow, did not realize there was anything that large up there that was ready to come down. Seemed like a fairly safe place.

Not your every year occurrence.
-
Maybe it fell out of the upper chimney? That has had big rocks that were ready to come out?
-
Kyle - were you within earshot when it happened?
Did you find Runout's shoe?
-
Betcha the shoe is under the biggest boulder that fell on the ground.

Nope. It came off from below the initial overhang between SOD and Icarus. So not a very far drop. There is a bit of a corner there now. It definitely did not come form the chimneys because Aaron and I climbed through them an hour later.

This happened pretty recently but not while we were there. I'm afraid I have no idea where runout's shoe is, or mine.

That smooshed tree was there when a friend and I did the first pitch on Dec 22nd. This was just after the only significant rainstorm we had this season. I did not look too closely at the scenario but at the time thought the tree fell over. Looks like the rain might of dislodged something and smooshed it.

If a rockfall happens in the Pinns and no one is around to hear it - does it make a sound? :)
